Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule some time with you one-on-one?
I offer personal consultations and song critiques (for artists) as well as business consulting (for A&R, Managers, and Producers). Please use this form to schedule an appointment.
How do I submit my songs to you?
I will accept material from artists/bands looking for advice/help on improving their songs, but you should schedule an appointment with me first using this special song critique request form. Otherwise, your material may be shelved.
When submitting your music to me, please include:
- Song titles
- Lyric sheets
- Name(s) of songwriter(s)
- What you’re looking for (goals)
- How you see yourself as an artist (genre)
- Website/Facebook/Myspace page URL
- Phone Number
- Email Address
Is it OK to send rough demos I recorded at home?
I welcome guitar/vocal and piano/vocal demos. Songs don’t have to be produced to be critiqued. I’m listening for song structure and lyrical cohesiveness, so I actually prefer listening to raw songs to hear what the song sounds like without a lot of studio embellishment.
Who have you worked with in the past?
Hundreds of artists over the years. For a full history, check out the About John page. You might also be interested in what my clients have to say.
Can you help me get a record deal? Place a song?
No, I don’t shop artists/songs to record companies, publishers, producers or other artists. You’re on your own for that.
However, I can help you make your songs better. Check out the list of services I provide.
Where do I find the articles you’ve written?
All the articles I write get posted under the “blog” section.
Can you come see my band play? Come on, we’re really good!
Sorry, I do not accept unsolicited requests from bands. I need to get to know you first. You can always friend me on Facebook if you’d like to be friends.
Can you manage my band?
I am a consultant — not a manager. For management tips, check out SongwriterToolbox.com.
